Access Coordinator and Editorial Consultant

Access Coordinators are there to support Deaf, Disabled, and Neurodivergent (DDN) members of cast, crew, and production team. We coordinate access requirements so that they are met, fulfilled, and maintained throughout a DDN individual's time on a production.

This also includes those waiting on an official diagnosis who are impacted by access barriers; as well as those who are awaiting diagnosis; or who face barriers due to chronic illness; long-term injury; severe allergies; or even those experiencing symptoms with pregnancy, postpartum, or menopause.

When everybody involved in a production has the tools and support they deserve in order to flourish, then a final project will also be the best it can be.

An ID badge on a lanyard that says 'Leah Rachel Access Coordinator'. The photo is black and white.
A full-length photo of Leah in her wheelchair against a pink backdrop, with a dark wooden floor. Leah’s wheelchair has bright pink hand-rim grip covers, and white spokes (as tribute to the white cane she had to give up when she became a wheelchair user) The manual wheelchair frame is a shiny silver titanium, with pink and black castor wheels on the front. She sits back in her wheelchair with a relaxed confidence and a smile, with the arm closest to camera leant on the wheelchair’s low back. Her brunette curls are pulled into a high ponytail, with many ringlets still down framing her face. Her legs are crossed, wearing blue skinny jeans, along with a black high neck racer-vest, and chunky black platform boots.

Please note ongoing/active projects are under NDA and will not appear on the CV

As an Access coordinator I work one-to-one with the individual to help them figure out their access requirements and the ways they may need support on this production. I then support the production team in putting those in requirements in place. I am also the person on the ground who can handle sudden changes or emergencies which impact access barriers (usually due to factors outside of anyone's control).

25% of the UK population is disabled, and with an estimated 70-80% of those being invisible, you never know when a member of your cast or crew has a disability.

My role as an editorial consultant is also surrounding disability and access, though in a different capacity. This is when I help you integrate disability and access into your story seamlessly, authentically, and sensitively. I work with the creative team on productions to help you bring disability to life in your stories, and give you the confidence to put authentic disability representation on screen.
